Positioning

The European Sixes Lacrosse Championships is the official continental competition for the Sixes format and a key step in the international development of the sport. The 2026 edition in Salou will host both men’s and women’s championships and serves as a direct qualification pathway to the 2027 World Lacrosse Sixes Championships. FTL Context

Sixes is no longer experimental — it is the format driving international lacrosse growth and Olympic integration. ESLC is where European nations are tested on their ability to build real Sixes programs, not just adapt field structures. It creates a clear hierarchy ahead of global competition and exposes which countries are aligned with the Olympic trajectory — and which are falling behind.

Countries to Watch

Spain (Host Nation) · France (Rebuild Phase) · Netherlands (Sixes Structure) · England (Benchmark) · Sweden (Emerging Program)

Spain carries host pressure into ESLC 2026 with direct exposure at continental level, with expectations to convert visibility into competitive legitimacy. France enters in a rebuilding phase following recent international cycles, with a renewed focus on Sixes structure and player development. Netherlands brings structured Sixes development and a clear Olympic trajectory. England arrives as the continental benchmark. Sweden uses this cycle to convert long-term development into competitive presence.
