Italy: Searching for Breakthrough

8 active clubs, a structured youth pathway, and ELF Championship Silver in 2025. Italy is no longer just a growing scene — it is one of Europe's most credible lacrosse nations.

FTL insight

Italy has momentum and structure — but growth must now convert into repeatable international results.

Potential is no longer enough.

The Italy Lacrosse Scene

Italy's lacrosse story is one of consistent, structural construction. The national federation FIGL — Federazione Italiana Giuoco Lacrosse — was founded on June 1, 2007 by Fabio Antonelli, and has since built a national structure spanning multiple regions: 8 active clubs today, from Milan and Turin in the north to Rome and beyond.

Field lacrosse is the primary format, and FIGL runs one of the few structured youth development pathways in European lacrosse. Sixes is increasingly part of the national conversation, driven partly by Italy's strong 2025 ELF Championship run.

In 2025, Italy reached the ELF Championship final, losing 9-8 to Israel. That result is the clearest measure of how far Italian lacrosse has come.
